Long-distance move from Bedford, Bedfordshire to Bedford, Bedfordshire

Great service

Start to finish this company were great. Highly recommend. We wasn’t sure at first if we should go with this company but I was really reassured.

Avoid

Hobbs Removals and Storage is the worst possible company that you could choose to help you move. We had no choice but to use this company because we needed to move urgently, and they seemed to be adaptable, flexible, and willing to take us on short notice. After the experience we have had with them, however, we will never use them again. Originally, they appeared very efficient as they instantly sent a member of staff over to complete a quote and then they followed up promptly with their quote of £2460, including disassembly and reassembly of several items of furniture. As we were in a fairly large house with a lot of items this was a reasonable quote, and they were amenable to our tight schedule. We expected stellar service after the interactions we had already had with the company, however that was categorically not the case.

This plays nothing but a blame game and take absolutely NO responsibility for the damage they caused to several of our items. They are very unprofessional and messed us around when it came to setting a date to move our belongings, despite assurances at the start that they were able to make the date. Subsequently we were forced to sleep on hastily purchased airbeds for two nights with only a couple of suitcases of belongings.

When the time came for the company to actually transport our belongings, it became very apparent that they lack any care or consideration, mishandling and mistreating our belongings as if they were merely boxes of rubbish to be taken to the tip. We paid the additional £450 for the company to dismantle and then reassemble three beds, two desks, and a wardrobe, and this was all documented when the initial survey was conducted. On the day, the team the ignored these instructions and only took apart the beds as there was no other way to remove them from our old property, and then placed them in the wrong rooms (ignoring our instructions). When it was mentioned, they would not rectify their mistake because the guys with the tools had already left, and they might be able to come back in a few days to switch them, so we had to do it ourselves. The removed the doors to the wardrobe but did not bother disassembling the rest of it until they reached the new property and realised, they had not fit it through the doors. They then proceeded to drag the disassembled wardrobe across the drive of our new property, resulting in ugly scuff marks on the face of what was a lovely wardrobe. The two doors they had removed earlier were put on upside down when the wardrobe was reassembled as well.

In addition to the wardrobe, the company broke a vase with sentimental value, and explained they had not brought the second desk over as it began to split when they moved it. The first desk arrived unscathed (though the company did not bother disassembling this one like they were paid to) thankfully. When we returned to the old property the following day, we discovered not only was there a vast amount of our items strewn across the place, having perhaps fallen out of boxes and just been left, but the desk that they claimed was ‘splitting’ slightly was in two separate pieces. Somehow this sturdy desk had been ripped in half, presumably as one person tried to carry it downstairs alone rather than ask for help or disassemble it (as they were paid to do!). Needless to say, they took absolutely no responsibility for the broken desk stating that WE should have disassembled it for them before they arrived!

The property we moved from was left in a right state. One full box, that I admit if forgot to tape, somehow made it over to the new property half full. The other half of the contents was sprawled across the floor at the old house. They left a large amount of our belongings in the house to the point where we had to hire a man and van to help us pick up the rest. When confronted, all Hobbs had to say was this it was our fault because we left loads of things unpacked. Items they left included things like hoovers, steam mops, 6ft cat scratchers, fans, and items that were too big to be boxed.

Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed in the service we got from this company and would highly discourage anyone from using them. We will be posting this review on as many sites as possible to spread the word because we feel people need to be aware of these uncaring, unreliable, and rude removal company.

Total cost of their service: £2,460.

Move 28-10-16 MK to Dunstable.

Had a very competitive quote and booked two weeks before the move. Had some concerns having read the reviews, but was happy to find the three guys (who arrived on time) to be polite, careful and hard working. Despite there being a long delay getting the keys, they cheerfully had everything where we wanted it in just over two hours.
With everything unpacked the only damage was two cheap glasses, which we hadn't packed too well.

Beware.

We have had a similar issue to the last reviewer, We have over £6000 worth of damage which we are now going to court over. They removal company did not even turn up on the correct day to delivery our furniture. When I contacted them they were very aggressive on the phone when I asked for their insurance details which I DO NOT THINK THEY ARE INSURED as asked to send a letter. I have now sent many letters and they are not even replying to the letter with the pending court action on. I have also registered my complaint with trading standards and would encourage others to do the same. .

Careless damage.

The marble floor in the hallway of our new home was badly scratched when heavy furniture was dragged across it - no floor coverings were put down.  when I noticed it and remarked on it later I was told 'accidents will happen, put it in wriiting and request a claim from" !!  Not good enough.  A beautiful soapstone statue was also badly damaged, with the same reaction.  4 weeks later and I still don't have the claiim form, nor am I any closer to getting it.  No response on the phone or from emails.  I am very angry - this sort of damage simply should not occur, and if it does, they should be doing their very best to make it good.

Beware of thieves!!

I will strongly advice against using this company: they are reckless, don't care and frightening of all is that they steal your stuff!
I had a perfume that was given to me on father's day (diesel only the brave wild) by my son's stolen. When I called to complaint I was told it was passed 7 days and it was to late to claim and I just had to "deal with it" this was from the owner of the company located in MK.
Please be warned!!

Damage to goods "in transit".

My first impression of the guys is great and they are good guys and did a good job. My destination was a 4th floor flat . HOWEVER a 3 seater settee was damaged and they guys said put a claim in which I did. After constantly chasing and phoning the final response was that the settee was damaged in the stairwell of my property, and that their insurance did not cover this- they only cover goods in transit. As far as I am aware the goods was in transit as it never reached my property. And that is their argument. telling me to claim off my own insurance- what is the point in having their insurance as it appears to count for nothing. The company seem to have no after care service - I have phoned up all the numbers and spent at least 30 mins waiting for someone to answer - nobody responds. so I email and I email and yes it must hack them off but Hobbs if you respond it would not be a problem! I just need a courtesy response to know what is happening and being kept updated. It has reached the point whereby if I do not receive a response re my last email I will take legal action as companies should not be allowed to get away with things that they are ultimately responsible for. It does make you wonder who their insurance company is as they will not pass any details over . again the guys were pretty good but the after service is appalling.
